I know what you’re thinking. A new friend should not be too unexpected for a woman who’s been concertedly expanding her social horizons. Ah, but this new friend is absolutely nothing to do with Social Horizons February. No, this new friend came, rather unexpectedly, out of my Travel Like a Local challenge – imagine that!
Part of my plan to travel Sydney like a local, was joining Couchsurfing, to find a friendly local for hubby and I to stay with in the Blue Mountains. Imagine my surprise then, when instead of a friendly Aussie offering me bed, I got a message from a Spanish girl, newly arrived in Bath and wanting to meet people. Hectic though this week is, I resolved to make time to say ‘hi and welcome to Bath’ before I go to Australia, so I suggested we grab a quick coffee. We did so yesterday. In the event, it was a very quick coffee (my fault – I’d forgotten I had a physio appointment and had to dash off within the hour), but she seems sweet, easy to chat with and fascinating in equal measure, so I’m really looking forward to us catching up again when I get back.
Would you believe it? My social horizons are now expanding unassisted. I’m out with the two girls from book group tonight, too. It’s a veritable social whirl!
