Happy August • Day 10

1 good thing that happened today:

I’ve got an hour all to myself before the Mr gets in. Lovely surprise reading slot!

3 things I’m thankful for:

1. The planet, the universe and everything. Yep, thinking big today. When I think about the chances of us even existing, let alone on a planet as beautiful and diverse as this one, it just blows my mind. Whether you believe in the big bang and evolution, intelligent design, or anything in between or equivalent, I think we can all agree it’s a miracle (even if we disagree on whether that’s a miracle of nature or one of the deity bestowed variety).

2. Suffragettes and the feminist movement that have got us this far towards equality. Arguably there’s still a long way to go, but that playing field is looking a damn site more level than it used to be. It’s not all that long ago (only a generation or so) that women needed their husband’s permission to be prescribed birth control, and weren’t named on the mortgage they helped pay for. Keep pushing for equality ladies, we’ve done awesome things so far.

3. In the same vein, but on a more personal scale; I’m also very thankful for having a husband who ‘gets’ it. Who gets (for example) why we needed to double-barrel our names instead of me losing mine altogether, and why I need to be a Ms instead of a Mrs. He’s a feminist too (as everybody should be. We all want equality, don’t we?) and that’s something to be thankful for. It saves a lot of arguments, if nothing else!

Happy photo for the day:
